Basic Screenshot Shortcuts
- Entire Screen: Press Shift + Command + 3. The screenshot saves to your desktop.
- Selected Area: Press Shift + Command + 4. Drag to select the area. The screenshot saves to your desktop.
- A Specific Window: Press Shift + Command + 4, then press the Spacebar. Click on the window. The screenshot saves to your desktop.
Using the Screenshot Toolbar (macOS Mojave and later)
- Press Shift + Command + 5 to open the screenshot toolbar.
- Choose to capture the entire screen, a selected portion, or a specific window.
- You can also choose to record your screen.
- Use the Options menu to change the save location, set a timer, or show/hide the mouse pointer.
Copy to Clipboard Instead of Saving
- Add the Control key to any shortcut above (e.g., Control + Shift + Command + 3). The screenshot is copied to your clipboard, ready to paste into another app.
