Finding Your Public IP Address

This is the address your device uses to communicate with the internet.

  • Use a Search Engine: The simplest method is to go to a search engine like Google and type “What is my IP address”. It will be displayed at the top of the results.
  • Use a Dedicated Website: Visit a website like whatismyipaddress.com or ipchicken.com.

Finding Your Private IP Address

This is the address assigned to your device on your local network (e.g., by your router).

On Windows:

  1. Open the Command Prompt (type cmd in the Start menu).
  2. Type ipconfig and press Enter.
  3. Look for the “IPv4 Address” under your active network connection.

On macOS:

  1. Open System Preferences and go to Network.
  2. Select your active network connection (Wi-Fi or Ethernet).
  3. Your IP address will be displayed on the right.

On Mobile (Android & iOS):

  • Go to your device’s Settings.
  • Tap on Wi-Fi and then tap on the network you are connected to. Your local IP address will be listed there.
