How to Clean Your Washing Machine

Regular cleaning helps maintain your washing machine’s performance and prevents odors. Follow these steps for a thorough clean.

Cleaning the Interior (Drum)

  1. Run a Hot Water Cycle: Set the machine to the hottest water setting and the largest load size.
  2. Add Cleaning Agent: Pour two cups of white vinegar or a cup of bleach (check your manual first, as bleach can damage some machines) into the detergent dispenser or directly into the drum. Do not mix vinegar and bleach.
  3. Wipe the Drum: After the cycle finishes, use a damp cloth to wipe the inside of the drum, door, and rubber gasket to remove any remaining residue.

Cleaning the Exterior and Dispensers

  • Detergent Dispenser: Remove the dispenser tray and wash it with warm, soapy water.
  • Exterior: Wipe the outside of the machine and the door glass with a multi-surface cleaner.
  • Filter: Locate and clean the drain pump filter (consult your user manual for its location and instructions).

Maintenance Tips

  • Leave the door or lid open after each use to let the drum dry out and prevent mildew.
  • Clean your machine once a month to keep it fresh and functioning properly.
