How to Clean Your Washing Machine
Regular cleaning helps maintain your washing machine’s performance and prevents odors. Follow these steps for a thorough clean.
Cleaning the Interior (Drum)
- Run a Hot Water Cycle: Set the machine to the hottest water setting and the largest load size.
- Add Cleaning Agent: Pour two cups of white vinegar or a cup of bleach (check your manual first, as bleach can damage some machines) into the detergent dispenser or directly into the drum. Do not mix vinegar and bleach.
- Wipe the Drum: After the cycle finishes, use a damp cloth to wipe the inside of the drum, door, and rubber gasket to remove any remaining residue.
Cleaning the Exterior and Dispensers
- Detergent Dispenser: Remove the dispenser tray and wash it with warm, soapy water.
- Exterior: Wipe the outside of the machine and the door glass with a multi-surface cleaner.
- Filter: Locate and clean the drain pump filter (consult your user manual for its location and instructions).
Maintenance Tips
- Leave the door or lid open after each use to let the drum dry out and prevent mildew.
- Clean your machine once a month to keep it fresh and functioning properly.
