Classic Alfredo Sauce Recipe
This rich and creamy Italian sauce is perfect for pasta dishes.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 cups freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions:
- Melt butter: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter.
- Add garlic: Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Add cream: Pour in the heavy cream, bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low.
- Add cheese: Gradually whisk in the Parmesan cheese until the sauce is smooth and the cheese has melted.
- Season: Stir in salt, pepper, and nutmeg (if using). Continue to cook on low for 2-3 minutes until thickened.
- Serve immediately over cooked fettuccine or your favorite pasta.
Tip: For the best results, use freshly grated Parmesan cheese rather than pre-shredded, which contains anti-caking agents that can make the sauce grainy.
