How to Tie a Simple Four-in-Hand Knot

  1. Drape the tie around your neck with the wide end on your right, hanging about 12 inches lower than the narrow end.
  2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end.
  3. Bring the wide end up through the loop between your collar and tie.
  4. Pull the wide end down through the front loop you’ve just created.
  5. Tighten the knot by holding the narrow end and sliding the knot up toward your collar.

How to Tie a Windsor Knot

  1. Start with the wide end on your right, extending about 12 inches below the narrow end.
  2. Cross the wide end over the narrow end and then bring it up through the neck loop.
  3. Bring the wide end down on your left side.
  4. Pull the wide end behind the narrow end and to your right.
  5. Bring the wide end up through the neck loop again.
  6. Bring the wide end down through the front knot.
  7. Tighten the knot and adjust as needed.

Tip: Make sure the tip of the wide end reaches your belt buckle for the perfect length.
