Methods for Formatting Multiple Cells Simultaneously

You can format multiple cells at once in Excel using these methods:

  1. Select Contiguous Cells: Click and drag your mouse across the cells you want to format.
  2. Select Non-Contiguous Cells: Hold down the Ctrl key (Command key on Mac) and click on individual cells to select them.
  3. Select Entire Rows/Columns: Click the row number or column letter to select entire rows or columns.
  4. Use the Format Painter:
    • Format a single cell as desired
    • Select that cell and click the Format Painter icon (paintbrush) in the Home tab
    • Click and drag across the cells you want to apply the same formatting to

Applying Formatting

Once cells are selected, use the formatting options in the Home tab to apply:

  • Font styles, sizes, and colors
  • Cell borders and fill colors
  • Number formats (currency, percentage, etc.)
  • Alignment and text wrapping
  • Cell styles from the gallery
